The Five Man Electric Band lamented about the large number of signs we encounter every day. Thirty-eight years after that song was released, drivers have more billboards, more road signs and more distractions than ever. Many drivers find it challenging to keep their eyes on the road while trying to read the safety signs. Avoid the sign touting the latest restaurant. These are ten signs you should never ignore when driving.

1. Stop. Running a stop sign is one of the quickest ways to get points on your driver's license. Chances are, if you have failed to stop at a sign, so have other people. Remember, stopping doesn't mean just slowing down then proceeding. The car must come to a complete stop. Police may be nearby waiting to see who will be the next driver who fails to stop.

2. Yield. This is one of the most confusing traffic signs. A driver must slow down at a yield sign, and must stop if there is oncoming traffic. Failing to stop and then having an accident could result in a charge called failure to yield. This will add points to your license and you will have to pay a fine.

3. Speed limit. While many police officers don't stop you unless you are going more than ten miles over the speed limit, the sign doesn't say-"Speed limit, 55 miles per hour plus 10!" Officers can stop you for going just a couple of miles over the limit. If you're driving recklessly, playing loud music or running traffic lights, you can be assured you will get pulled over by a police officer.

4. School zone. School zones were established to protect children from speeding drivers when school is beginning or dismissing. Usually the school zone is 15 miles less than the normal speed limit.

5. Work zone ahead. Often this sign is a simple 'Men working.' Now you may question whether or not they are actually working, but you must slow down in the work zone. You can pay a much higher fine for speeding in a work zone.
